"Everything comes full circle."
Shining a light on the otherwise erased lesbian culture of the 1950s, Carol follows Carol Aird (Cate Blanchett) and Therese Belivet (Rooney Mara) along their intense relationship. Therese is a young department store clerk, who is wishing for a way out of her mundane life and engagement to Richard (Jake Lacey). Therese finds herself entranced by Carol Aird, who is an older woman stuck in an unhappy marriage.
This film shows a beautiful contrast of the softness of their love surrounded by the harshness of a world that frowns upon its existence. Giving the audience butterflies with every touch shared between the two women, Carol is a beautiful story about overcoming many obstacles and sacrificing the comfort of simplicity for overall happiness.
Both, Cate and Rooney, do a wonderful job portraying the restlessness of the characters as well as the contentment they find in each other.
